Using film screening, the average number of detections of breast cancer was 4.1 – 4.5 per 1,000 women. Switching to digital mammography, detection jumped to 7.9 per 1,000.

Unfortunately 60% – 70% of screenings are performed on the film mammography equipment. The next time you need a mammogram, you may want to check to see which type of equipment is used, or if digital mammography equipment is available.
